Peking University has gathered more than 20 filmmakers, scholars and officials in a seminar named Films' Culture and Influence from Oct 27-28.

La Peikang, vice-president of the State Film Bureau, notes in his keynote speech that the box office revenue of the first three quarters of 2012 stands at 12.1 billion yuan ($1.86 billion), nearly 27 percent increase compared to the year before. But he points out that the rises in the quota and revenue share of imported films have brought about greater challenges for local films, which earned only 4.9 billion yuan by Oct 1 this year.

Attendants also discussed issues such as how to improve Chinese film's overseas box office and influence.
