Poor students free from tuition fees

The ministries of finance and education jointly published a document on the exemption of tuition fees for high school students from families with economic difficulties. The document states that students from poor families may be exempt from paying tuition fees, starting in the autumn semester this year, but that their accommodation fees will not be waived. High schools will receive funding from local government finance departments to cover costs.

Registration system on teachers

At a recent news conference, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education said that a unified registration system for teachers nationwide will be completed by the end of this year and go into operation next year. The system includes the age, education background and employment history of teachers as well as records of violations of the law. Education authorities will be authorized to read and edit the records, while teachers will also be allowed to browse or update their information.
