The finals of the 6th Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) International Translation and Interpreting Competition are held at BLCU on March 31.

Nine contestants from the University of Leeds, BLCU, China Foreign Affairs University, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen)took part.

The competition was held by BLCU, and supported by the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, the École Supérieure d'Interprètes et de Traducteurs, the University of Leeds, and City University of Hong Kong.

The finals of the 6th Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) International Translation and Interpreting Competition are held at BLCU on March 31.

The theme of the competition was“SDG 2030: Transforming China and the World”. The finals had two parts: consecutive interpreting between Chinese and French and consecutive interpreting between Chinese and English.

Three contestants competed in the consecutive interpreting between Chinese and Frenchsection,and six took part in the Chinese and English section. The contestants were confident and calm on the stage, delivering excellent interpretations of speakers’ remarks.

The BLCU International Translation and Interpreting Competition has been held for the past six years. The competition this year was launched in December 2016, and attracted 9,769 student entrants from 554 universities around the world. The competition is divided into translation and interpreting components, and simultaneous interpreting was added for the first time this year.

Translators and interpreters play an important role in bridging global economics, politics, and culture. BLCU’sinternational competition offers a stage on which students can challenge themselves and contribute to cultural exchange development between different countries.
