TJU's commitment to Biosafety
Tianjin University established the Biosafety Strategy Research Center in September 2016. In November,2016, experts of the center participated in the Eighth Review of the United Nations Biological Weapons Convention with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Fu Cong, head of the Chinese delegation, pointed out at the Eighth Review Conference that the relevant departments of the Chinese government have established long-term cooperation with Tianjin University Biosafety Strategy Center.
The "Model Code of Conduct for Biological Scientists" drafted by the center was submitted to the General Assembly by China and Pakistan and stimulated response from members of the conference.
In December 2016, the center was approved as a Science and Technology Commission Strategic Research Base by the Ministry of Education. On October 27, 2017, Professor Li Bingzhi, on behalf of the Ministry of Science and Technology, went to the US State Department to participate in the implementation of the Sino-US Convention on Chemical Weapons and the Biological Weapons Convention. In November 2017, the Center submitted an application to the United Nations as a Non-Government Organization in the field of Bio-Armed Control Convention in an attempt to build an international science and technology think tank in the field of biosafety.
