Athens Olympics positive for Greece The Olympic Games will have a positive effect both for Greece and the Balkan region as a whole, Athens 2004 Olympic Games Organizing Committee (ATHOC) President Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki said on Monday. Addressing a conference in Athens, Angelopoulos-Daskalaki said that Greece will show the modern image of both the country itself and the remaining countries of the Balkan region. She added that Greece is being given a unique opportunity which the country should benefit from. The ATHOC chief also mentioned the difficulties being faced in preparing the Athens Olympics as the voyage until 2004 will be difficult, however, she said things are getting better day by day. Meanwhile, Greek Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos also said on the same occasion that the Athens Olympics are an opportunity for public and private investments and development. He said that an estimated 120,000 new job will be created through the course of preparations for the Olympic Games, and Athens will inherit modern infrastructures and enjoy international promotion. |
