Bank of China joined MasterCard International to launch Great Wall International Maestro debit card in Shanghai on Monday. Only US$10 is needed to open an account for debit cards, far lower than that of credit cards, and no evaluation of cardholders' credit is required. The card accepts settling accounts in either US dollars or Hong Kong dollars.

Systems software

Systems Union, a British software company, is expanding its Shanghai market by pushing forward its new SunSystems, a financial and business software solutions package, to local foreign ventures including airlines, manufacturers and hotels. Ashley Clarke, chief executive officer of Asia Pacific, said the company also plans to invest more in the local market to serve Chinese enterprises that want to be listed on the Nasdaq.
