Newcastle United kept their UEFA Cup hopes alive with an impressive 3-1 victory over German side TSV 1860 Munich at St James' Park on Wednesday.

The win gave Bobby Robson's side a 6-3 aggregate win in their Intertoto Cup semifinal.

Gary Speed headed the home side into a fifth-minute lead before Markus Schroth kept the Germans' hopes alive by levelling three minutes before halftime.

Goals by Lomana Tresor Lua-Lua (80) and Nolberto Solano, with a 90th minute penalty, confirmed Newcastle's win.

They face French side Troyes in one of the three Intertoto Cup finals with a place in the UEFA Cup on offer for the winners.
