B&Q vows to open more branches in China

B&Q Plc, a world renowned transnational enterprise operating chain-store construction materials supermarkets, will open 58 chain stores in more than 30 Chinese cities by 2005.

The announcement was made by B&Q sources during a trade fair at the 2001 West Lake Expo, being held in Hangzhou, a scenic city in east China's Zhejiang Province.

An official in charge of B&Q businesses in China said that B&Q has so far set up stores in Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hangzhou as well as other cities.

B&Q, a subsidiary of the world-famous Kingfisher Plc of Britain, has opened nearly 600 chain stores in 14 countries and regions worldwide, and ranks top among similar companies in Europe and third worldwide in terms of turnover.

B&Q and Kingfisher Plc annually purchase from China construction materials, hardware and tools, electric appliances and general merchandise worth US$1 billion and sell them through their chain stores worldwide.
