French passenger left fuming as cab drives off with laptop
( 2002-01-07 11:31 ) (7 )

French national Xavier Gregori was an angry man after the cab he had taken to the airport drove off with his new laptop and other valuables, the Straits Times reported Monday in Singapore.

"I'm very disappointed and angry. You would expect certain risks in other countries, but at an international airport like Changi and a country like Singapore, definitely not," he told the newspaper.

Gregori, the vice president of a contruction company, tried to pay the cab fare of 16.20 Singapore dollars (US$8.75 US) with a US$50 note.

Since the driver had no change, Gregori left his luggage and valuables in the cab and went into the airport building to get smaller notes.

But the taxi was nowhere to be seen when he came out a few minutes later.

Gregori said he lost nearly US$10,000 dollars worth of valuables including a new Sony laptop and several jewelelry that he had bought for his family.
