More cars for rentShanghai residents will be able to rent more than 10 different kinds of vehicles, including roadsters and caravans, in the latter half of this year, the Shanghai Morning Post reported. A joint venture between Anji and AVIS, a famous international car rental company, is the only joint-venture company dealing with the car rental business in the domestic market. According to some sources, the new co-operation will divide its motorcade into nine levels of 12 categories, ranging from compact cars to luxury cars. The joint-venture is planning to buy cars like Porsche, Ferrari, BMW and even caravans to meet various consumer demands. Starting July 12, Shanghai residents will be able to freely rent vehicles in chain stores affiliated with AVIS in most of the Southeast Asian nations. Hotels continue to meet six needs Officials from the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administrative Committee denied policy regarding the hotel industry's six needs, which include tooth brush, toothpaste, slippers, combs, bottled shower foam and shampoo, would be cancelled, the Shanghai Morning Post reported several days ago. "Providing such articles is a standard to appraise star hotels in the country," said Chen Xueyu, an official with the committee. "It will not be cancelled in the amendment of the star appraisal standards." On the contrary, the clause about the six articles is reiterated in the amended standard, according to Chen. The six needs is essential for hotels of three or more stars. Shanghai Morning Post report stated that the six needs are harmful to the environment, pointing out that the total weight of waste from these products each year is 1,814 tons. Zhuang Hua, an expert from the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, said they are looking for ways to improve the situation. In the future, hotels may gradually use big bottles of shampoos or liquid soap instead of disposable packages.
