First Tibetan store for the handicapped opens
( 2002-09-04 15:45 ) (8 )

Handicapped persons in Lhasa have seen the end of the days when they had to have aids brought in from elsewhere in China.

The recent opening of a shop selling articles for the handicapped in the regional capital of Lhasa will ease life for such persons living in the Tibet Autonomous Region in west China.

Located on the East Linkho Road in downtown Lhasa, the shop offers dozens of kinds of articles such as wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids and corrective aids. All the articles are sold at cost price to consumers.

The shop, run by the regional federation of the handicapped, offers other services such as made-to-order appliances.

The federation plans to open more stores for the disabled in other parts of Tibet in the future.
