2008 Olympic Games provide a good opportunity for the spread of the Olympic
Movement in China, a top official from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the
2008 Olympics (BOCOG) said on Wednesday.
Jiang Xiaoyu, Vice President of BOCOG, made the remarks Wednesday at a
seminar to mark the birth of Lebaron Pierre de Coubertine, the modern Olympic
Games founder born on January 1, 1863. The Olympic Movement has become the most
influential social and cultural event in the world since its innovation in the
19th century, said Jiang. "It has made great contributions to world peace and
the overall development of human beings," he said.
Jiang also said that the 2008 Olympics would promote the spread of the
Olympic Movement in China. "In the build-up to the 2008 Games, Beijing will take
the opportunity to spread the Olympic Movement in the city and the country as a
whole," he added.
