Construction of freeway commences in central China ( 2003-06-16 11:15) (xinhua)
Central China's Henan province on Sunday started construction on a planned
170-kilometer freeway linking Lankao county and Xuchang city, part of a longer
freeway involving two provinces.
Local transport officials said the freeway was expected to cost five billion
yuan (600 million US dollars).
The freeway is part of the 768-kilometer Rizhao-Nanyang freeway, one of
China's major freeway projects.
The Rizhao-Nanyang freeway starts at Rizhao city in the coastal province of
Shandong, east China, and ends at Nanyang city of Henan Province.
The officials said the project will facilitate links with Shandong, which
ranked third last year in terms of gross domestic output on the Chinese
mainland
