East China city to develop huge coal production capacity ( 2003-06-23 16:33) (Xinhua)
Huainan city in east China's Anhui province has set its sights on developing
an annual coal production capacity of over 100 million tons by 2010, according
to local sources.The city is planning to increase its coal output by 10 million
tons a year over the next seven years.
The Huainan Mineral Group and the Xinji Coal Group, two coal giants in the
city, are expected to develop annual coal production capacities of over 70
million and 30 million tons, respectively, by the year 2010.Huainan, which has a
total coal reserve of more than 17 billion tons, ranking third in the country,
plans to build 9 additional coal mines over the next seven years.
Along with its goal of developing a huge coal production base, the city is
also focusing on improving electricity generation and chemical production
through the use of coal.Construction is set to begin on a series of new power
plants, with capacity ranging from 300,000 to 600,000 kW.
By 2010, the city expects to have a power generating capacity of 10 million
kW.Moreover, a series of chemical projects relating to coal gasification and
methanol production are to be developed soon.
