Hu, French defence minister hold talks ( 2003-07-01 09:45) (China Daily)
China will work with France and other countries in the international community to promote multi-polarization, democratic international relations, and globalization for the benefit of all, said President Hu Jintao Monday in Beijing. Hu made the remarks at a meeting with visiting French Defence Minister Michele Alliot-Marie and her party. Jiang Zemin, chairman of China's Central Military Commission, and Chinese Defence Minister Cao Gangchuan held talks with Alliot-Marie yesterday as well. President Hu pointed to the steady growth of the bilateral partnership between China and France in recent years, citing the constant contacts between leaders of the two countries, and fruitful exchanges and co-operation in various fields as well as in international affairs. He also recalled his successful meeting with French President Jacques Chirac during the informal South-North leaders meeting on June 1 in the French city of Evian. Alliot-Marie said France hoped to further develop friendly, long-term exchanges and co-operation in such fields as politics, economics, culture and security. France has maintained the continuous growth of bilateral relations not only complies with international trends but also shows the common aspirations of people from both countries, she added. Jiang said China and France should strengthen exchanges and co-operation and work towards a new international order. He said China and France have had fruitful co-operation in recent years as they have co-operated and co-ordinated well on international issues. Alliot-Marie said President Chirac values joint efforts with China in maintaining world peace and security.
