IOC to send experts to help Beijing Olympic Games organizers ( 2003-07-07 12:34) (Xinhua)
The International Olympic Committee(IOC) will send a group of experts to Beijing this week to share their know-how with the 2008 Games organizers on how to stage the quadrennial event successfully. Headed by Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the IOC's Co-ordination Commission for the 2008 Olympics, the 23-strong team features Olympic experts in marketing, traffic, tele broadcasting, environmental protection, security, finance and sports. During the August 7-9 visit, they will hold discussions with officials of the Beijing Organizing Committee of the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG) and pay visits to Olympic Green and Wukesong Sports &Culture Complex, two of the major planned venues of the Games. The IOC team will also visit a design exhibition for the two venues as well as the Chinese capital city's traffic control center. It will be the second time for the IOC Co-ordination Commission to visit Beijing since a six-member fact-finding group visited here late April. The commission gave their thumbs-up to the preparatory work of BOCOG during its last visit, in particular in such fields as venue construction, accommodation and marketing.
