Re-elected president: COC to try best for 2008 Olympics ( 2003-07-10 10:39) (Xinhua)
The Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) will have to make utmost efforts to stage a successful Olympic Games in 2008, said Yuan Weimin, re-elected to head the Chinese sports' governing body on Wednesday. "Only if we have the full cooperation from all aspects, we can stage a satisfactory Games in 2008, which is just five years away," said Yuan who is about to serve his second term in the post after Wednesday's election. "We are faced with great challenges in such aspects as venue construction and event organization during the preparation," said Yuan. "In the meantime, we also pay much attention to the Chinese athletes, who are expected to strive for good results in the Games. "To stage a best ever Olympic Games, we have to do our best," added Yuan. Through the election, 10 vice presidents are appointed, namely Li Zhijian,
Zhang Faqiang, Yu Zaiqing, Li Furong, Duan Shijie, Wang Baoliang, He Huixian,
Yang Shu'an, Wu Shouzhang, Tu Mingde. Gu Yaoming was named Secretary General of
the COC.
