Official punished for violating family planning law
( 2003-07-14 14:53) (Xinhua)

A local government official in north China's Hebei Province has been expelled from both the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the government for violating the family planning law by having too many children and making false reports on the number of his family members.

Huang Zhaojun, a 51-year old deputy head of Xiaolongma Township, in Yongnian County, fathered seven children between 1979-89, but two of these children were not reported to the local authorities as required by the law and were unrecorded on official files.

Among the seven kids, two were boys, but the first one died in a road accident.

The local government discovered the violation through tips from local villagers who were angered by his wrongdoing, according to a local official.

Huang told Xinhua that he had broken the law because he holds to outdated traditional thinking like "the more children, the@happiness" and "one loses fealty to the family if he does not have a son".
