Missing reporters found, return safely ( 2003-08-03 09:16) (Xinhua) Three reporters who went
missing nine days ago in a primeval forest area in northeast China's Jilin
Province have been found by local villagers.
There were found at the entrance of the Changbanpo Village in Jingyu County
around 5 p.m. Friday and local villagers immediately sent them to the Workers'
Hospital of Sanchazi Forestry Administration for medical examination.
Wang Kai, deputy director of the hospital, said the three reporters are all
in fair condition, except that they are extremely weak because they had not had
enough food for several days. Only one of the three hurt his anklebone.
The three reporters of the City Evening News, based in the provincial capital
of Changchun, were working on an environmental story in Ganfanpen, dubbed the
"Valley of Death" by locals, when they went missing last Thursday.
More than 200 rescuers were sent to search for them in the Ganfanpen region
in the Changbai Mountains, but had found no traces before Friday.
Locals said few people dared to go into the valley in the past decades, as it
was known for its mysterious, lush ravines and eccentric landforms that easily
misled people.
