Beckham stunned by media interest since his Madrid move ( 2003-08-27 09:33) (Agencies)
David Beckham has been astonished by the intense media pressure he has had to put up with since joining Real Madrid, but the England captain insists his game will not be adversely affected. "From the moment I signed, even from the moment the rumours started, I've been amazed by the attention I've received," Beckham said at a news conference on Tuesday. "It's part and parcel of my life now, though, and I either have to enjoy it a bit or go under. It's not me to go under." Beckham joined Real from Manchester United last month in a deal worth up to 35 million euros ($38.09 million) and ever since he has been besieged by the paparazzi, as well as members of the equally excitable sports press. "This sort of attention is what comes with my life but hopefully it will calm down," Beckham said. "Being followed by six or seven cars all the time is too much. "It's greater than anything I had in England. I'm astonished at how it's gone and the level it's stayed at." Beckham has been well below his best in his two games for Real in Spain, but is confident his form will soon improve. "I need to be given a bit longer to settle," he said. "I know you'll see a lot better from me in the future."
