Nokia seals wireless equipment deals ( 2003-08-27 15:09) (Wireless Week) Nokia has inked two new supply
deals in China, one in Chinese mainland and one in Hong Kong. Jiangxi MCC
and Hong Kong CSL Limited have chosen Nokia to spruce up their networks.
Jiangxi MCC will fork over $65 million for Nokia to expand its GSM network.
The deal calls for Nokia to supply its core and radio-access network
infrastructure, a Nokia Short Message Service Center and the Nokia NetAct
network and service management system.
The Chinese operator is expanding its network in anticipation of increased
demand for mobile voice capacity and improved SMS services, Nokia said.
Separately, Nokia has inked a deal with CSL to provide EDGE enhancements to
CSL's GSM data network. CSL recently decided to deploy W-CDMA technology. Terms
of the deal were not disclosed.
