A Panjin City police armorer, of northeast China's Liaoning Province, was
sentenced to three years in jail for illegally lending guns or giving them to
friends as gifts.
The prisoner, surnamed Sun, was found guilty after he lent a total of seven
hunting rifles and one military pistol in separate cases to friends or kept them
in friends' homes, between September 2000 and August 2002.
In return, a friend surnamed Li gave Sun four packs of cigarettes, each worth
1,200 yuan (US$145), a mobile phone worth 3,700 yuan (US$446) and 20,000 yuan
(US$2,400) in cash, according to the People's Court of Yinzhou District, Tieling
City, which was designated to hear Sun's case at the order of the Higher
People's Court of Liaoning.
The court said the hunting rifles all had been taken back but the pistol was
still missing.
