Second artillery research institute achieves scientific successes ( 2003-09-09 11:23) (PLA Daily)
In late August, a "distributed interference device project verification of a
system" was completed by a research team led by young Dr. Lu Tongguang of a
research institute under the Second Artillery Force. In the institute, there are
a lot of talented people like Lu. For example, Dr. Zhang Jianbao is an expert at
imaging and graphical technology. His leadership in the study at the institute
has generated 4 major scientific achievements in two years, and 6 other projects
are about to produce satisfactory results. Dr. Wang Hui joined the institute as
an software expert and has achieved several major breakthroughs.
The institute was responsible for developing automatic commanding equipment
for the Chinese army. In the face of the world's new military changes and the
pressure to accomplish the historical task of informationization of the Chinese
army, it is confronted with the problem: of lacking of the talentes. As the
first step, the institute sent out its own personnel to colleges and
universities to receive professional training. Every year, 8 cadres are sent to
pursue studies in colleges or universities for Doctor's or Master's degrees. Now
a mobile postdoctoral station has been established in the institute to attract
talents. The institute promises that talented persons with specialties will be
provided with projects, first-class research conditions and adequate funds for
scientific research.
Since last year, the institute has completed more than 200 important
projects, among which 127 won the Military Scientific and Technological Progress
Awards. For example, their "electronic commanding system for a type of missile"
realized the seamless integration of operational commanding system and weapon
systems and has been successfully applied to missile launching exercise. And a
"missile-launching comprehensive information support system" has been proved a
great help for boosting the commanding and decision-making capacities of
commanders.
