Hotline helps the depressed find hope ( 2003-09-09 12:29) (China Daily) Beijing has established a
hotline to help people cope with psychological crises and seek solutions other
than suicide, reports Beijing Evening News.
The World Health Organization has named September 10 the first World Suicide
Prevention Day. In response, Beijing has set up the hotline - 800 8101 117 - to
provide counselling to people suffering from psychological problems.
Statistics show that one person successfully commits suicide every two
minutes in China, while another eight will attempt to kill themselves.
Every year about 287,000 people die by their own hand. Suicide has also
become the leading cause of death among people between the ages of 15 and
34.
