School 'guarantees' key university place ( 2003-09-18 13:45) (China Daily)
"For just 100,000 yuan (US$12,080) you can fulfil your dream of attending
Peking or Tsinghua universities," promised a tutoring service called 211
Company. That dream fell apart for one client, but the victim finally got her
50,000 yuan (US$6,040) in tuition money back on Monday, reports Beijing Morning
News.
Liu signed a contract with 211 Company last August. After accepting Liu's
50,000 yuan, the company ensured her that she would be enrolled by a key
university after a year of studying with them. If not, they promised, not only
would they refund her money, but also pay her an additional 10,000 yuan ($1,200)
as compensation.
But Liu stopped attending the agency's classes after learning that 211
Company lacked valid certification to run such a school.
Liu's father then sued 211 Company at the Haidian District court this
April.
