Oldest person in northeastern Chinese city dies at 111
( 2003-09-24 16:42) (Xinhua)

The oldest person in the northeastern Chinese city of Tianjin, known for her love of exercise and magnanimous nature, has died at age 111, the official Xinhua News Agency said Wednesday.

Run Houshi, who died peacefully in her home on Friday, did not suffer from any illnesses, Xinhua said, quoting her son, Run Shusen.

Mother and son had lived together since 1958, when Mrs. Run moved to Tianjin from the eastern province of Shandong. She was in good health all her life, Run Shusen told Xinhua.

``She even went downstairs to have strolls or often chat with neighbors in her 100s,'' he was quoted as saying.

The secret of her longevity, he said, lay in her magnanimous spirit. She often smiled and never quarreled with others, he said.

The oldest person living in China is believed to be a 117-year-old woman in the southwestern province of Sichuan, Xinhua said.
