Journalists get new insurance policy ( 2003-09-26 14:24) (China Daily)
A new insurance policy specifically designed for journalists, who rank third on the list of most dangerous professions, will soon be unveiled, reports Beijing Morning Post. According to Pacific Insurance Company, the new accidental injury insurance for journalists will cover healthy, on-the-job journalism workers between the ages of 18 and 65. Accidental death or injury, medical compensation for accidental injury and compensation paid to immediate family members in case of death will all be included. But this kind of insurance will only be sold to groups. Wang Xujing, a professor at the Beijing Trade and Business University, believes that the new policy will provide timely compensation following accidents and ease financial pressures on the media. Journalists are also happy about the new policy as it will better safeguard
their security. "Of course, the best news would be no accidents at all," said a
journalist at the Beijing TV station.
