Watchdog set up to regulate blood purification practices
( 2003-09-27 22:03) (Xinhua)

A special administrative committee on blood purification under the Chinese Hospital Management Society was established Saturday, aiming to better regulate the country's blood purification methods.

The new committee is China's first administrative body on medical practices of blood purification, commonly used in medical treatment of fatal diseases such as renal failure and uremia.

Yu Zhongyuan, director of the committee, said the organization will formulate rules and standards pertaining to blood purification practices to better serve patients across the country.

Statistics show that there are some 50,000 patients nationwide demanding blood purification treatment and the number is expected to increase.
