China invites investment from overseas Chinese ( 2003-10-01 10:01) (Xinhua) The Chinese government
sincerely welcomes overseas Chinese to participate in the country's construction
and promote trade and economic cooperation between China and the countries they
live in, said Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi Tuesday.
As an important part of China's national economy, the enterprises set up by
overseas Chinese in China have contributed to economic development in where the
enterprises are operating, said Wu at a meeting with chiefs of 100 Star
Enterprises run by overseas Chinese in China during 2000-2002.
These enterprises have also played an active role in stepping up China's
modernization drive by bringing along more overseas businessmen to invest in
China, said the vice premier, who expressed thanks to the entrepreneurs for
their care, support and participation in China's economic development.
Wu reiterated China's basic state policy of opening up to the outside world,
saying attracting foreign investment is a major part of this policy. She said
China has become one of the most attractive countries to foreign investors as it
enjoys a stable political and social environment and its investment environment
is getting better.
The vice premier said overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao
and Taiwan could make more contributions in China 's efforts to build an
affluent society in an all-round way.
