Rail travelers reach 36.57 million in China's "Golden Week" ( 2003-10-08 15:49) (Xinhua)
Some 36.57 million passengers traveled by train between September 28 and
October 7, a rise of 3. 3 percent over last year, setting a new record,
according to China 's Ministry of Railways.
Zhan Zining, an official with the Railways Ministry, said 136 tourist express
trains, up 36 percent year-on-year, and 689 additional temporary passenger
trains, up 37.5 percent year-on- year, were brought into service during the
National Day "Golden Week" which ended on Oct. 7.
The railway system met the huge holiday demand on the whole, and major scenic
spots and railway stations reported steady passenger flow and good order, said
Zhan.
October 1, the first day of the "Golden Week", registered a record train
passenger volume of 4.093 million, an increase of 239, 000 over the same day
last year, said Zhan.
