With Hangzhou as a hub, Zhejiang has three double-track railways (Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway, Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway and Hangzhou-Ningbo Railway) and two trunk railways (Hangzhou-Xuancheng Railway and Jinhua-Wenzhou Railway). At the end of 2001, mileage of railways in operation in the province totaled 1,193 kilometers, and among them 595 kilometers were double-track railways. In September 2001,the Xinyi-Changxin Railway opened to traffic. In addition, the third phase project of Xiaoshan-Ningbo Double-track Railway has been completed.


The Hangzhou Economic & Technological Development Zone

The province is served with 6 national and 66 provincial highways, totaling 44,000 kilometers. Among them 774 kilometers are expressways. By the end of 2002, a project of highway network will have been completed with which it will take only four hours to reach any city within the province from Hangzhou, the provincial capital. By 2005, expressways will have extended to a total length of 2,000 kilometers.

Now the province operates seven airports, respectively in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Yiwu, Quzhou, Huangyan and Zhoushan, accommodating more than 170 domestic and international air routes.


Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway

In addition, Zhejiang has completed a provincial network of speedy mail delivery, including air, railroad and highway services. There are four airmail delivery bureaus respectively located in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou and Jinhua. Besides, an international mail exchange center has been set up in Hangzhou.

The province has a telephone switchboard service with a capacity of 16.72 million lines, with IDD service linking with 230-odd countries and regions throughout the world. Mobile phone subscribers now number at 10.90 million, thanks to mobile phone service being offered in all counties or levels above. Zhejiang leads the country in digital and voice communications and automatic phone service. At the end of 2001, the number of Internet users registered reached 860,000. The province also led the country in the coverage of public digital telecommunications and TV and telephone conference service.
