In generating electricity, Zhejiang makes full use of energy resources
including hydraulic, thermal, wind, tidal and nuclear powers. Large thermal
power plants have been built in Beilun, Zhenhai, Taizhou, Wenzhou, and
Changxing, in addition to a number of large and medium-sized hydraulic power
plants at the Xin'an River, Fuchun River, Wuxi River and Jinshui Beach.
The power industry in the province has developed into a new stage featured by
"large generating units, large power plants, large-scale electric-networks,
super high voltage and high-degree of automation". The generators with a
capacity of 6,000 kilowatts add up to an installed generating capacity of 16.44
million kilowatts.
The Qinshan Nuclear Power Station is the first of its kind designed and
constructed independently by the Chinese. Its first-phase construction has
completed with a generating set of 300,000-kilowatt capacity installed and
operating in the power grid.
The Jiangxia Tidal Power Plant in Wenling of Taizhou has an installed
capacity of 3,200 kilowatts, taking the third place in scale in the world. The
Tianhuangping Pumped-water Storage Power Station has an installed capacity of
1.8 million kilowatts, being the second in scale in the world. Besides,
large-scale projects including the Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant and Tankeng
Hydraulic Power Station are under preparation.
The coastline fit for building ports in the province runs 240 kilometers. A
group of ports has taken shape with Ningbo, Wenzhou, Zhoushan, Zhapu and Haimen
as the major ones. Among them, the Beilun Harbor has container wharves of the
fourth and fifth generations and 14 berths for ships with a capacity ranging
from 25,000 to 200,000 tons. The harbor is accessible by ships with a capacity
of 200,000 tons.
