World champions Bourne to quit professional skating
( 2003-10-22 17:03) (Xinhua)

Ice dance world champions Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz of Canada will end their partnership next month as Bourne plans to end his professional skating career.

During the past over a decade they performing together, the duo have won 10 Canadian championships, four world bronze medals and a gold in Washington in March.

After winning the gold medal, Bourne and Kraatz decided to turn professional. But Kraatz now wants to end the partnership to " explore new avenues".

"I have reached a point in my life where I am interested in exploring new avenues and enriching my life with new challenges," Kraatz said in a statement on Tuesday.

His decision has disappointed Bourne, 27, who said she would continue skating professionally.

"The next steps for me will be to focus on new experiences in the skating field," she said.
