Chinese top legislator to visit DPRK ( 2003-10-23 21:23) (Xinhua)
Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo will pay an official goodwill visit to the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) from Oct. 29 to 31.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue made the announcement at a
regular press conference here Thursday.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress
and member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist
Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, will head a state delegation at the
invitation of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Presidium and the DPRK Cabinet,
Zhang said.
In response to a related question, Zhang said China and the DPRK are friendly
neighbors and enjoy a tradition of exchanging high-level visits among leaders of
the two countries. Wu's upcoming visit is to reciprocate the two visits made by
DPRK state delegations in 1999 and 2002.
During this important visit, the two sides will have a friendly and in-depth
exchange of views on regional and international situations and other issues of
common interest, said Zhang.
