Beijing police have arrested 211 people in the past three days in a crackdown on street crimes, Beijing municipal public security bureau said Thursday.

The "100-day winter campaign against crime", started on Oct. 20 and will end in January 2004, said a Beijing municipal public security bureau spokesman.

The capital police will beef up patrols in the capital and crack down on illegal activities like gambling, production and transmission of pornography and prostitution.

They will also regulate secret markets dealing with illegally- obtained bicycles and mobile phones.
