Zeng Qinghong inspects northeast China province ( 2003-10-25 00:26) (Xinhua)
Vice-President Zeng Qinghong made an inspection tour of northeast China's Liaoning Province, an old industrial base of the country, between Oct.21-24. During his stay, Zeng, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, toured Anshan, Liaoyang, Fushun and Shenyang cities and visited a number of state-owned enterprises, military industrial enterprises and private companies. He talked with local officials and model workers and discussed with them ways to rejuvenate the old industrial base. Zeng showed great concern over some cities where local miners are facing the threat of poverty because of the exhaustion of resources and visited community aid centers for needy people. Party organizations at different levels should study the essence of the recent Third Plenary Session of the 16th CPC Central Committee and the central leadership's call for rejuvenating the northeast, Zeng said. He called for giving full play to the role of the working class in revitalizing the northeast industrial base. During his tour, Zeng paid a visit to the Memorial Hall of Lei Feng in Fushun and laid a floral basket at Lei's tomb. He urged people to learn from Lei, a soldier who was regarded as a model of communism by late Chinese leader Mao Zedong.
