Soccer-Thais set hefty target for Asian Cup ( 2003-11-04 10:47) (Football Asia, Hong Kong) Thailand are aiming to get five points from their
opening three matches in 2004 Asian Cup qualifying Group A.
Thailand are up against Tajikistan, whom they play in Tashkent this Thursday,
Hong Kong and Uzbekistan for the two places for the Finals to be played in China
next year.
Well aware of the chilly cold conditions that will definitely trouble his
players who are more accustomed to hot and humid weather, Thailand coach Carlos
Roberto Carvalho has taken the option of taking his team early to Tashkent.
"It's very cold in Tashkent at the moment and I hope our players can
acclimatize," said the Brazilian coach on the Bangkok Post.
Meanwhile, AFC Champions League MVP Therdsak Chaiman doesn't believe the
five-point target is all that dreamy.
"I think we can beat Hong Kong," said the player who was also voted MVP at
last year's Tiger Cup. "Our team will certainly do their best."
