NBA-Swift leads way as Grizzlies upset Duncan-less Spurs

Stromile Swift scored five points in the final minute as the Memphis Grizzlies took advantage of an injury to Tim Duncan to beat the San Antonio Spurs 88-80 Monday.

Swift had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead a balanced Memphis attack against the defending NBA champions, who lost Duncan to an ankle injury in the first quarter.

Duncan had collected 10 points when he left the game. The team described his injury as minor and said an MRI scan would be carried out Tuesday.

Jason Williams added 13 points and seven assists for Memphis, which beat the Spurs for the first time since the franchise moved from Vancouver to Memphis three seasons ago.

Wesley Person and Earl Watson each added 12 points for the Grizzlies.

Radoslav Nesterovic and Manu Ginobili had 13 points each for the Spurs, with Nesterovic also hauling down 14 rebounds. Ron Mercer and Malik Rose added 10 points for San Antonio, which was without Tony Parker.

San Antonio has lost both its road games this season.

Knicks 75 Magic 68

In Orlando, Charlie Ward had 15 points as the New York Knicks turned in the best defensive performance in their long history to edge the Magic 75-68.

Keith Van Horn added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Knicks, who held Orlando to 21-for-84 shooting from the floor.

Tracy McGrady led Orlando with 19 points but his 53-game streak with at least one three-pointer was snapped.

Hawks 90 Hornets 80

In Atlanta, Dion Glover had 20 points to push the Hawks to a 90-80 win over the Hornets, handing New Orleans its first loss of the season.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 18 points for the Hawks before a crowd of only 5,683.

Robert Traylor's career-best 20 points led the Hornets.

Mavericks 103 Heat 93

In Dallas, Dirk Nowitzki scored 30 points to help the Mavericks defeat the Miami Heat 103-93.

Steve Nash added 18 points and 11 assists for the Mavericks, who won for the third time in four games.

Udonis Haslem had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winless Heat (0-4) while John Wallace added 19 points.

Jazz 93 Timberwolves 88

In Salt Lake City, Matt Harpring notched 32 points to guide the Utah Jazz to a 93-88 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Greg Ostertag added 12 points and had a career-best 21 rebounds for the Jazz while Andrei Kirilenko scored 17 points.

Sam Cassell had 27 points and 10 assists for the T-Wolves, who had Kevin Garnett ejected in the second quarter for arguing with an official. Latrell Sprewell added 24 points.

76ers 94 Trail Blazers 83

In Portland, Allen Iverson picked up 31 points as the Philadelphia 76ers overcame the Trail Blazers 94-83.

Kenny Thomas had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Sixers while Marc Jackson and Glenn Robinson both added 15 points.

Rasheed Wallace totaled 22 points for Portland while Zach Randolph added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
