Chinese canoe team in buildup for 2004 Olympics

Chinese canoe team have said that they will kick
off their second-phase preparation for next year's Athens Olympic Games with a
selected field this week.
There are 50 athletes, selected from a 130-person field following the first
phase of the winter training camp, participating in the second one, said Xin
Qunying, deputy directorin charge of water events of the State General Sports
Administration, on Saturday.
"The winter camp is vital in the buildup for the Athens Olympics,"said Xin.
"After the first phase of training which was satisfactory, we will start the
second one on Tuesday."
The 50 athletes will be trained in Qiandao Lake, Zhejiang province.
Chinese squad have clinched four berths in next year's
Olympics.
