Guangdong aims to be global hub in printing ( 2003-12-03 16:17) (China Daily HK Edition) Guangdong Province is seeking a helping hand from Hong Kong and Macao to build the Pearl River Delta region into a global printing centre. To this end, the province will further simplify examination and approval procedures for overseas investors, particularly Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan companies, to set up in the Pearl River Delta region beginning next year, said He Wenguang, director of the Guangdong Provincial Association of Printing Industry. Speaking at a seminar on Guangdong's printing industrial development in Guangzhou on Tuesday, He said the implementation of CEPA would also help Guangdong achieve its goal. Liao Xiaomian, deputy director-general of the Guangdong Provincial Press and Publication Administration, said his organization is considering more preferential policies to help attract offshore printing companies. Overseas printing machinery and equipment manufacturers are also encouraged to set up research and development centres in the province, Liao added. Guangdong has established three printing industrial development zones in the Pearl River Delta to attract foreign companies - Zhongshan, Dongguan and Huizhou - and the provincial government will introduce preferential polices on land use rights and taxation to attract foreign investors. Meanwhile, international seminars, lectures, book fairs, exhibitions of printing equipment and technologies and related shows will be organized to help boost Sino-foreign co-operation. Guangdong's printing industry achieved an output of more than 80 billion yuan (US$9.64 billion) last year, accounting for about 30 per cent of the country's total and becoming one of the province's pillar sectors.
