China to announce new head coach of women's football national team ( 2003-12-12 14:32) (Xinhua)
Chinese Football Association (CFA)will uncover the appointment of the head
coach of women's football national team on Sunday, according to CFA press
official Dong Hua.
"I think it has already been decided, but we have to find an appropriate
occasion to announce it. Maybe it will give you a big surprise," Dong Hua said
on Friday.
Four candidates entered the race for the coaching job which wasleft vacant
when former coach Ma Liangxing's contract with CFA expired after the World Cup
tournament. CFA held interviews with these candidates on November 29, and kept
the media guessing the results since then.
It was believed Zhang Haitao, a 32-year-old coach from ShandongLuneng men's
football club, will turn out to be the dark horse. A coach who asked for
anonymity disclosed that CFA had chosen Zhang over other contenders. "He is
young and enterprising and has some more advanced ideas about football compared
to other candidates. So CFA favors him," he said.
Zhang, who is now busy with selecting new players for the national team,
declined to make any comment until the appointment is officially announced.
