Chinese women top four, Swede Lundqvist progresses
( 2003-12-13 17:18) (CRI)

Four female Chinese ping pong players will compete for the Pro Tour Grand Finals in south China's city of Guangzhou. In the men's competition, Sweden Jens Lundquist continues his dark horse route to the semi-finals.

In the womens' semi-finals, top seeded Zhang Yining will play veteran Chinese Wang Nan while in the other game Niu Jianfeng and Gou Yan will compete to advance to the finals.

The four Chinese seeds didn't meet much difficulty in their route to the semi-finals apart from a tough match between Wang Nan and the Croatian Boros Tamara who won the first four sets 3 - 1. The experienced Wang Nan then grabbed the key two points in the fifth set and won the remaining sets.

In the men's competition, Sweden's Jens Lundquist continued his unexpected top form to defeat World Championship runner-up Greek Kreanga Kalinkos. The victory comes after the Swede's first day win over top Chinese seed Ma Lin.

After losing three sets Lundquist changed his tactics and showed great talent to proceed to the next round.

The male semi-finals will be Chinese Wang Hao versus Lundquist while Hao Shui takes on Korea's Rye Seung-min.
