This is the first colour image of Mars taken
by the panoramic camera on the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit released by
the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California on January 6, 2004.
It is the highest resolution image ever taken on the surface of another

The smooth surfaces of angular and rounded
rocks seen in this image of the martian terrain released by NASA
Tuesday Jan. 6, 2004 may be the result of wind-polishing debris. The
pictue was taken by the panoramic camera on the Mars Exploration Rover
