China providing live Super Bowl coverage
( 2004-01-29 13:53) (Agencies)

China Central Television (CCTV) will be one of several international networks using their own on-site crews for live coverage of Sunday's Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers.

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Chad Lewis, who is fluent in Mandarin, will serve as CCTV's colour analyst, providing background and explanation for viewers.

"The event is one of the greatest sporting occasions in the world and we are looking forward to capturing the drama for our viewers," CCTV producer Zhigang Shi told reporters on Wednesday.

Of the international networks broadcasting on site, Japanese rights holders NTV and NHK will bring the largest contingent to Houston, with more than 50 people working on the coverage.

France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Russia, Spain and Britain will also have their own crews on site. Britain has three broadcast crews in Houston, with BBC Radio
Five Live providing seven hours of game-day coverage.

In total, Sunday's game will be available in 229 countries and territories in 21 different languages, reaching a potential worldwide audience of one billion people.
