China will start to use lethal injections instead of shooting criminals convicted of capital criminals, Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday.

The Supreme People's Court said on Thursday that the new method is more civilized and more scientific, and will change China's image in the world.

Lethal injection has already been piloted in the southwest city of Kunming. The country, as well as international opinion, has responded positively.

The new method will be spread nationwidely by the end of this year.
