Lance Armstrong's third consecutive Tour de France triumph was front-page news across the United States and touched off celebrations in his Texas hometown.

"Armstrong Joins the Gods of Cycling" hailed the New York Times, while USA Today called his effort a "tour de force show" and the Baltimore Sun praised "A Three-peat on two wheels."

In Austin, the Texas capitol and hometown of Armstrong, a banner was placed upon the main tower in the city and gatherings at pubs paid homage to the cancer conqueror as a hero for the ages.

Armstrong matched Greg Lemond as the winningest rider from outside Europe with his third triumph in the famed cycling race, a grueling three-week race across the French mountains and countryside that ended Sunday in Paris.
