( 2002-01-29 10:34) (1)

The Chinese Government on Thursday formally submitted the application report of Shanghai's bid to host the World Expo 2010 to the International Bureau of Exhibitions.

Chinese Ambassador to France Wu Jianmin, on behalf of the Chinese Government, presented the report to bureau Secretary-General V G Loscertales, together with letters from Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Premier Zhu Rongji.

The report detailed the advantages of Shanghai's bid and put forward its theme of "Better City, Better Life."

Jiang stated in his letter that China, with a population of nearly 1.3 billion and a rapidly growing economy, earnestly expects to host the World Expo.

To host World Expo 2010 will help China better co-operate and communicate with other countries and regions around the world, said Jiang.

Premier Zhu Rongji promised China will spare no efforts to ensure a successful expo.
