Two killed, 32 injured by landslide in south China
( 2002-09-19 11:06) (7)

Two people were killed and 32 others injured Wednesday afternoon when a landslide swept through squatters' huts in a village near Shenzhen in southern China, state media said.

The landslide buried a dozen shelters illegally built halfway up a hill in

Luoyukeng, Minzhi village, the official Xinhua news agency said.

Some 580 police, soldiers and government workers as well as eight

ambulances were sent to help in the rescue work, Xinhua said.

The landslide was caused by heavy rain over the past few days, it said.

Rain-related disasters have claimed more than 1,000 lives so far this year

in China.
