Taiwan to continue strengthening epidemic prevention work
( 2003-07-06 10:24) (Xinhua)

Taiwan's health departments have decided not to loosen their epidemic prevention work although the World Health Organization (WHO) had announced the removal of Taiwan from the organization's list of areas affected by severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) Saturday.

Sources from Taiwan said body temperature testing will still be conducted in hospitals and at the airports for 15 to 20 days.

Taiwan was the last area in the world that was removed from the list of SARS affected areas.

As the most recent probable SARS case in Taiwan appeared on June 15, Taiwan fulfilled the world health body's condition of no new cases for 20 consecutive days for removal from the SARS-affected area list.

Taiwan was placed on the list after the first SARS case appeared in Taiwan in mid-March, leading travelers from Taiwan to face strict restrictions imposed by several countries.
