Former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson is taking on KFC Canada's parent company, calling for an international boycott of the fast-food chain for what she calls the cruel treatment of its chickens.

``If people knew how KFC treats its chickens, they'd never eat another drumstick,'' Anderson said in a letter sent by fax to John Bitove, chairman of Priszm Brandz, at the company's headquarters in this community north of Toronto on Thursday.

KFC has long denied claims that it mistreats chickens. In May, the company said in a news release it would adopt ``comprehensive industry-leading guidelines and audits for the humane raising and handling of poultry.''

Anderson joined in an international campaign against KFC by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Anderson, a British Columbia native and animal rights activist, accused KFC of scalding live birds and using crippling drugs.

The PETA campaign has included demonstrations around the world, as well as billboard and print advertisements. PETA claims KFC raises 750 million chickens each year in overcrowded, feces-filled sheds and kills them in inhumane ways for its restaurants.
